Grounded Gardens Brings Coffee and Greenery to North Spokane
The shop offers houseplants and a place to connect while trees across the city lose their leaves.

Grounded Gardens opened in July in north Spokane, at the former Green Gables Photography Studio. Owner Matt Oliver moved to the area three years ago, and this is his first retail and coffee business after operating other small companies. The shop pairs hundreds of houseplants with an espresso bar, matcha, chai, refreshers, Italian sodas and cold-case treats.
Plants range from familiar philodendrons and monsteras to tropical varieties, exotic specimens and bonsai. Customers can buy greenery across several price points, with delivery available. Hot drinks come in 12-ounce servings and cold drinks in 16-ounce servings. Oliver uses beans and matcha from Indaba Coffee Roasters, while snacks include coffee cake, Danishes, muffins and cake pops.
The store is designed as a place to stay awhile, with seating, a patio and monthly workshops. During October, children can paint wooden Halloween decorations and small pumpkins at no cost; adults can decorate a purchased plant pot. Two terrarium workshops are planned for November, with registration available online or in the shop. Club 727 members receive a monthly plant, a café drink and 10% off merchandise. The space can also be rented.
