Cannon Hill Park Gets New Irrigation System
Crews are installing the system this fall as part of the Together Spokane initiative.

Cannon Hill Park is undergoing a major irrigation upgrade this fall through the voter-approved Together Spokane initiative. Trenches dug for the installation have closed the park’s west side. The playground remains open, while the restroom has shut for winter.
The South Hill park sits a few blocks to Manito Park’s west and includes a man-made pond. Together, the grounds and pond consume 25 million gallons annually. The city identifies Cannon Hill as its least efficient water user among parks and golf courses: it uses two million gallons per acre each year, compared with 450,000 gallons per acre at city golf courses.
The replacement system is intended to waste less water and limit daytime watering. Next year, construction is scheduled on a new pond-filling system as part of a full pond renovation. Cannon Hill’s land previously held a brickyard in the late 1880s, which produced bricks used to rebuild Spokane following the 1889 great fire.
- The west side is closed during irrigation work.
- The playground remains accessible.
- The restroom is closed for winter.
- Park and pond water use totals 25 million gallons yearly.
